• Qt usage among major financial firms?

Qt is used by many financial institutions. However, because of the confidentiality in the financial sector, we are not allowed to list them all. But, I can say that Thomson Reuters uses Qt for some of their financial systems. I hope this helps. Also, in light of the announcement on Friday, I must stress that Qt will continue to be a viable framework and tool set for desktop and embedded development.

I've abandoned all my Qt mobile apps simply because they won't be as long-lasting as I'd hoped. I was going to flesh them out over a few years. I still have some Linux/Windows apps in QML just because it's so nice to program in. I will continue using Qt/QML on desktop. I may look in to .NET programming for mobile. Even though I prefer Qt, I think .NET is the next best thing anyway. Unfortunately that will target only one platform (or perhaps 3 if you include Windows and Xbox). But this will be a long way in the future as I do not desire WP7. In its current state it is a joke to call it a smartphone honestly. It's very fast and fluid but apart from some MS-only products that are integrated, its features can be compared to S40 dumbphones. I'll keep an eye out on WebOS too. HP seems to be giving it justice. It seems to be like a combination of the best parts of Android (Linux kernel, OS, supports devs, do what you want) and WP7/iOS (flashy, fluid). I don't know what they use for programming though - anyone? I heard MoJo is what they used to use (in WebOS 1.x,2.x) and they will still work but they are going forward with something else in 3.x?
Please. People. This is not a personal decision so don't make it personal. I am as frustrated by the implication of Nokia's new direction as you are. But the man has a company to save and made the best decision he can in the situation. We may not like it, but we don't have to vent by mangling persons' names and other childish means.
He (and the board, lets not forget that) made the worst possible decision ever. Any other operating system (Android, MeeGo or webOS) is a better choice than Windows Phone. Who "loves" Bing and Office, seriously? Proprietary systems only work for companies that do a 100% integration like Apple. WP7 only exists because Microsoft has a "magic" supply of money that they can afford to waste on a toy that exists solely to hurt Apple and Google. If MS grows tired of it, Nokia will be left out in the cold. Nokia has now become just another LG.

Hi, I don't know kubuntu, I use Slackware and lilo (not grub). First of all I suggest you to remove windows 7 and start using Slackware as you first operating system... ;-) I think kubuntu make some partition by him self but I don't think it overwrite windows partition. When you want to recover windows bootloader to mbr you can do that from windows (google: "windows 7 restore mbr"). I don't know about restoring image because you must know if your application you used to get the image took an image of all disk or only the windows partition an if it include mbr. I hope this help you...

These days I was super-busy so I haven't had time for watching any news, earlier I've received news that Brisbane was on floods and the exact same question hit me! I hope all their properties can be easily restored and continue to be safe.
Also did this help you in load testing the forums and wiki. I am sure the tagging system might have taken a lot of load on itself.
Yes, now we actually know that we scale. Well, the system at least. :) Another very important factor was stress-testing our workflow. We made some adjustments based on that, mainly when it comes to saying "No" to colleagues. :P
He's quite right in that post. But "Get Out of Their Way" only works if the "Hire Well" can really be achieved. And sometimes you have a really good team, but some of them are kind-of newbies. Things then might get bad (e.g. focussing on the wrong parts, some member being over-motivated and trying to make thing 120% perfect and such).
Well, yes, you still need to manage your team. That also means that you need to know what everybody is working on and set priorities if needed. But that's something you do every other week or - for newbies - once a week. You don't have to watch them all the time. I agree on the team part though. You have to be well aware about possible pitfalls and social incompatibilities. That is something that can be kept in check though.
Also, programmers tend to think like programmers, not like users or customers - these are sometimes like ying and yang and do not always fit together (beeing more of a fire and water in that case :-) ) But in general, yes, let them do their work and do not interrupt too often.
Tell me about it. I am surrounded by them... ;) I wonder how it works to have someone not-so-terribly-technical lead a team of developers (or other IT people). Obviously you need to understand what their work is about. Wouldn't that bring advantages too? Taking a different approach to problems and all?
Which goes for customers calling in for a problem too (especially in small companies!), these should be delegated to some support entity - may it be the supporting developer of the day/week.
Hehe. I see that concept blow up spectacularly. Users are just plain annoying. OTOH, if I read emails like "how on earth could you miss the most important feature foo? Without it your site is absolutely useless to anybody but yourself" I start to see the point.
