Ok, apparently the library did not contain much code. Adding more code it now correctly shows that it is a dynamic library also with ldd.

The PKG_CONFIG_PATH is an environment variable so you need to add it before running qmake.
So set it through Projects > Build Settings > Build Environment in QtCreator or set it through terminal before running qmake manually in terminal.

@RyanEdward Although not a native QTCreator solution, I use: C gist to simulate key presses on linux.
Mapping this binary to a keyboard shortcut on your native desktop environment can hack your way to a solution.

The core Qt Gui library contains the code for JPEG so recompile is needed to get rid of it.

However, are you sure its a clash ? I mean the JPEG is wrapped into Qt and classes so
clashing with a free function seems unlikely.

This is a community driven forum. From the looks of these questions you should rather contact the Qt Company directly.

In any case, you will have to rebuild Qt yourself as the pre-built binaries won't run on such a old system.

Then it's trivial. Look at the main function of B, it will probably instantiate a main widget, you can use that as a child widget of your application

Ok well here's an interesting discovery I've made, for anyone who finds this thread in the future:

There seems to be an issue with the driver for the off-brand Arduino Nanos possibly not signalling to the OS correctly, or the implementation that Qt uses just really doesn't like the way that the driver responds. I am referring specifically to the nano clone which uses the QinHeng HL-340 serial peripheral. Not sure why this caused a problem, but there it is. Once I used an official Uno the code worked no problem.

If I were more patient and had better resources I could possibly trace back the issue, but I do not, so sorry everyone lol.

As such I'm marking this as resolved.
