qt-interest@trolltech.com which is old mailing list
Qt Center (I dont know if this is official Trolltech/nokia)
    or QDN.
My Colleagues usually are big fan of mailing list and they say it has vast collection of over ten year question answers, I was wondering if QDN is the one which is going to be main official Forum then why not Nokia integrate huge data base of mailing list questions here?

We have a FAQ section. And also mailing list db are maintained separately. Also QDN is the official Forum for developers working on Qt.

qt-interest is old, but it is still an active and valuable resource. IRC (#qt on freenet) is also a hangout of many skilled Qt users. Qt Center is not an official Nokia resource, but that does not make it useless. QDN is upcomming, it seems, and quite active. I guess it depends on your personal preference, and on the type of question. I find that not every type of question fits well with IRC, for instance.

Integrating the huge archives of Qt-interest and the other lists into QDN could be interesting, but also tricky to do well. Perhaps the search should return results from the archives as well.

          Hi,

there are discussions going on about that.
First of all, This Forum is curently in beta state, which means the Trolls set it up and we are using it and try to post ideas, features and os on. But it is offical Nokia site for the Qt community.

Qt Center is a forum, that is not from nokia but which is also used from teh Qt community and the mailing lists still exist.

So all ways shoudl work. I don'z know how fast you get answers in QtCenter, I'm not very active there, same with the mailing lists (I don't use them). My personal feeling is that you get answers here quickly and I think also in the other channels like QtCenter, meilinmglists, ...

So I would say it's personal feeling, which to use :-)

Also its qtcent re .org, not qtcent er .org ;)

Will not this be a better idea to pass the discussion to mailing list it is just matter of automatic sending email to the mailing list, and vice versa with some filters. thats the way mailing list question will have better interface of QDN and and QDN will have more man hrs for free :)

Of course if we integrate huge archive of mailing list, that would be great asset for QDN.

If only it were that simple...
For starters, how are you going to handle the edit capabilities of the forum? Threading?

Also, IMHO, etiquette on a list is a bit different from on a forum.

P.S. Please don't put two posts of yourself under another. As long as there are no other posts under it, just edit your last post instead, if you want to add anything.

Integrating existing mailing-lists with a new forum is close to impossible with a reasonable amount of work. It is in fact not trivial at all.

As to where to ask your questions: some people prefer mailing-lists over forums, others don't. Then there is people wanting direct discussions, they might be best off on IRC. It really depends on what you want.

If you like forums, this one is a good start. Qt Centre is of no less quality and they have big amounts of already solved problems. Searching there before asking anywhere sounds like a good idea to me.

Even if integrating was easy, its better to keep forums and mailing lists separate. I know people who don't like forums and stick to mailing list, also the other way is true.
