    Hey,

I am new into buying programming books and can't find an answer to this. Is the content different?
I can buy the first edition really cheap tho.

    Thanks.

I think 1st ed was released for free.

Anyway, as far as I remember, 1st edition was based on Qt 4.0 or 4.1, and second edition on 4.5 or something like that. Quite a number of APIs were added between these versions. Please note, however, that Qt 4 has reached end of life already. Most of the content of that book is still relevant and examples will compile, but it is outdated.

@sierdzio said in C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4 - What is the difference between first and second edition?:

Yeah but some people online I talk to online say that the Qt 5 books are not so good and that these are pretty good. Do you find some resonance with that?

I have a subscription to packtpub and they have several Qt books that I download to my tablet. $10/month. They also have tons of nice C++, algorithm, data science, game programming, etc books available. I have about 20 books downloaded right now. I know I saw at least 2 Qt books with modern coverage. I think there may be more.

C++ is a perfectly valid school of magic.

"C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4" is the only book about Qt I have read so I can't compare myself. I've heard a lot of good said about https://qmlbook.github.io/ though.

The Qt4 book is definitely very good, and it covers the basics very well. However, it lacks a ton of modern stuff: there is no mention of QML, Qt3D, QCommandLineParser, new connection syntax, QStringBuilder etc. So I agree it's a good book to begin with, but it won't give you the best picture of how Qt looks right now.
