meta-Qt6 with eglfs

We are trying to create an sdk for compiling our project using eglfs for an am62xx (meta-ti) using kirkstone and lts-6.2. Both the image and the sdk compile fine and the sdk contains all the relevant platform plugins. However, when we try to compile our project Qt tries to include gles3 instead of gles2. The gles2 folder exists, but gles3 does not. How do we ensure that compilation on the app uses gles2.
