iOS 11 text now garbled

Our existing users that recently upgraded to iOS 11 are reporting that their text is now garbled making our app unusable.
For example, some or all text looks like this.
Everything was fine prior to iOS 11. This is happening on Qt 5.9.0.
I don't see anything in Qt's bug DB or 5.9.1 change list so am I doing something wrong?
Any help is appreciated.

Can you reproduce that with a minimal compilable example ?

I went ahead and filed a bug and found out many are hitting this issue as well. It has to do with the default iOS font and it appears to only happen when the screen is locked and unlocked. The workaround proposed is to set an application font -- recommendation is Helvetica Neue. So far this appears to work.
