Is it possible to write develop an application that when lanched cannot be shut-down except by logging into the application and then selecting an option to close the application?

I want to write an application that is the primary application on the device and prevents any attempt to switch to another application or launch another application.

AFAIK, you can't do that from an app. However you can configure your device to do that. Take a look at this page.
