    If there is anyone out there who knows how to pull this off with Qt, I would love for you to reply to this or make a page on your blog on how to do it.

    After a ton of time on Google, this is the very best I've seen:

    And it is a long way off from a window manager. I'm hoping this tutorial would cover simple communication with the OS, how to build the Qt project, install it as your window manager, and open programs like your file manager or a web browser. I know it's a tall order, but I can't find any good info on this topic.
