    Why does Qt installation/modification require so much time to get the "metainformation from the remote repository"? Just waste a few minutes every time to get that info. Damn.

      @Diracsbracket If this is an issue for you then you should file a change request in Qt bug tracker. This is Qt user forum.

          @Diracsbracket It will not help to complain here. If you would like to improve this situation you need to contact Qt developers. Those are not here, but you can reach them in Qt bug-tracker.

            This is not a bug. Adding the VS2017 kit takes an hour? Downloading at 60 kB/s? Just before this, I installed Visual Studio 2017 itself, which was much faster. Anyway. You're right. I'll just shut up complaining. Bad publicity for this great package, isn't it?

              @Diracsbracket I didn't say you should stop complaining, but complaining alone will hardly change anything. In the bug tracker you can file change requests as well, not only bugs. Open source (which Qt is as well) benefits from cooperation and contribution. There is something wrong with software or infrastructure? There is a bug? Well, report it at least or (if you can and want) provide a patch.
              Back to your problem: it looks like the installer uses a slow mirror to download the stuff, this isn't Qt itself. Online installer should provide an easy way to select a mirror. This is something you can suggest or vote for it if already suggested.

                @jsulm
                Or you could suggest to use this:
                https://github.com/JKSH/QtSdkRepoChooser
                Going to try it out now. But be prepared: the download of the following tool:
                https://github.com/JKSH/QtSdkRepoChooser/releases
                which is only 10MB or so is done 3.4kB/s and will take another half an hour or so...

                  @Diracsbracket Here I downloaded it almost instantly. Are you sure it isn't your Internet connection?

                    Just tested my internet download speed at 37.37 Mbps using
                    http://beta.speedtest.net, yet still only getting 13kb/s from github. Only 8 more minutes. Yej!

                      @Diracsbracket Well this time Qt is for sure innocent :-) as it is GitHub and not official Qt server.

                        @jsulm
                        Well... only half innocent. This repo selection is not part of the installer, so, I still hold Qt 50% responsible. Also, why don't they host this tool on their own servers? I hope using the JAIST repository will help me out.

                        Update: getting 1.6MB/s download from the installer after choosing the JAIST repo, where I got max. 150kB/s or so before... This tool should be made more visible on the official Qt webpages, since the functionality it provides is still not available in the official installer.

                        Update 2: Well.. it still takes a lot of time... as 1.6MB/s alternates with periods of a few tens of kB/s...
