Variable for accessing users root portion of path

I am on a mac and have a user directory at this location:

/Users/kloveridge

If I were on someone elses computer, I might be at

/Users/jhatch

the problem I have in my QMake file is we share a common directory starting at the root of their user directory such as:

@/Users/kloveride/project
/Users/jhatch/project@

In my QMake file I want to define I need a variable that does something like this:

@$$USERROOT/project@

I know this has to be something easy to do, but I can't find it! Can someone give me a hint where to find this?
