I like testing my applications on real devices but can't afford to get everyone out there.
What would be the most "interesting" devices to have in order to test Qt applications?

Ideally we would be looking for the "most common" on each platform, with the "most features" and, if it was at all possible, the cheapest! :)

The N900 should be on the list as it is the only maemo phone. But it is a niche phone and has been discontinued.

What about symbian phones? I assume the N8 is one obvious reference. Is it the only symbian^3 phone out there? Is there another one that could be used to test symbian applications that has most of the same features but not as "fancy"?

What other phones would you have if your goal is to develop Qt applications that can reach the most users?

I can confirm that N8 is perfect for development, but it's not that cheap. But you can go "here":http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices filter the touch screen devices and sort by latest release see what fits you.

I am trying to find a entry-level that may not be as appealing to consumers (so cheap) but that has most of the features (wifi, gps, camera, ...) and can have the latest available version of Qt/Mobility for symbian. Is it too much to ask :)?

You can do with C6 or C7 too instead of N8. Wait for another one month an buy E7 as it has qwerty KB and will help testing apps utilizing that.

          Also you might require 5800 - 5th edition and E 72 - 3rd edition.

By the way: Is it any way to filter by OS version on this URL? I can't find...

Also, does anybody have a sense of the symbian "best sellers" that can run Qt? I still don't have a clear picture of the actual market for Qt applications. Ovi has 3.5million downloads a day but I wonder how much of this is (or can be) Qt applications.

Nah! I didn't find the OS filtering feature. But in the end is all Symbian, doesn't matter if it's S60 or Symbian^3 but if you want to use that phone on the every day basis, I would suggest you the Symbian^3 phone :)

You should have "this":http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/ url bookmarked if developing for Nokia devices. You can compare features between different devices, sort according to Os and all.

Great URL but it drives me crazy that they can't have a filter by Qt/Mobility version.

On nokia USA store you can only get the C6 (not the C6-01 with symbian^3) out of this list.

The C7 I found on amazon for more than you can get a N8? Any reason to get it instead of the N8?

Found the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for $266 on Amazon.

The E-72 is not touch screen I think. What brings me to another interesting point: I assume that a very small percentage of the "current market" available to us has touchscreen devices. Does anybody know of any public "figures" on it?

There is no public figure available. But major chunk of devices out in market is non-touch based devices. If you go by particular region this might change.

Also C7 should be costing less than N8. Don't go by Amazon prices.

Out of the stores I found on froogle the cheapest on a reputable web site I found is $429 (about the same price I can get a N8 today)

At my place, the rates on street differ much than that displayed on the website. And also since C7 is a newer model it might take some time to see some price drop. Even C6-01 seems to be good

I you want to test your Qt application.

                                Then I suggest you N8 and C7..

Both the phones has Qt library inbuilt of the version Qt 4.6.3.
Both the phones are having Symbian^3 inbuilt.

if you want to target maemo then go for N900.
