Thankful for...

  • I am thankful for all the people in this forum that have helped me learn Qt over the past 2 years.
The patience, dedication, and wisdom of the people here is overwhelming. By interacting and learning from the people on this forum I believe I have saved many many man hours of frustration and dead ends.

    Thank you!

  • @fcarney
    Are you departing??

  • No, its just Thanksgiving next week. I won't be at work the next week.

  • @fcarney
Oh, LOL! Well, you know about USA Corona, so I trust you won't be mixing with others over TG this year!

  • Everything that fcarney said, and more. I've been getting help here for longer than I care to think about (and I still feel like a novice). Other forums and user groups could take a lesson or two from this one.

    Be well, all.

  • @JonB We survived TG this year. I know you were worried. lol

  • @fcarney
Congrats, but as far as I can tell you now await a tsunami of new cases from the mixing which has gone on over Thursday & the weekend....

Not that we're doing much better, we will have our tsunami over Xmas....

  • Honestly, the contract rate is exactly double of flu. These are numbers from a university in CA. The survival rate is 99.99% for most people, while 99.9% for vulnerable groups (not great). There is also some substances that have shown to take care of it quickly. So now that we know a lot more now it is less of a worry. Besides, flu killed more ppl in the USA during the woodstock year flu pandemic (1969?) (like 1 million if my numbers are right) than ppl have died in USA this year of covid. This is basically a bad flu that has been politicized and overreacted to. If we do stupid things like shut down that will kill more people. I read that 300 Million people will starve by years end due to shutting down countries. Twice as many people have died in the USA from suicide and drug overdose due to lockdowns than covid (according to CDC). So the reaction is deadly. If this didn't have massive political element to this I might believe the hype, but there is so much garbage in the media on this. It is all about fear fear fear. Scare the people into submission. I do social distancing and masks mostly to put other people at ease. I know people in the hospital that are extremely ill from this and have had family members get it. So its a real thing, but the reaction is non nonsensical. I know I have been exposed and likely have antibodies. I had a family member be sick with this for 2 months. Anyway, what I am saying is "don't worry, be happy". I just thank my maker that I am alive and can continue to enjoy life. So, if this is against the rules to post this I will delete it. This is what I know and feel about this. Wash your hands. I think that is your best weapon.

Yes, because the flu doesn't transmit trough aerosolization just by big droplets, also why masks are effective but not as effective as we'd want them to be (they can stop only the droplets).

This is basically a bad flu that has been politicized and overreacted to.

Not really, it behaves much more like a vasculitis than what you'd expect from a purely respiratory infection. As far as transmission goes it behaves both like measles and flu combined.

    So the reaction is deadly.

That's open to debate. This kind of argument was used during the spanish flu as well, and it didn't much stand to scrutiny. While it's hard to really tell, the current estimations are 5 of 1000, which means you can in fact calculate what is the risk to benefit ratio, and it doesn't hold for "do nothing"/"the cure is worse than the disease".

but there is so much garbage in the media on this. It is all about fear fear fear.

I agree. One shouldn't be scared out of one's mind, but a cautious light anxiety is warranted. The point being that you don't want people scared, you want them not being complacent. Failing to communicate this is indeed a political problem.

Wash your hands. I think that is your best weapon.

    Good advice.
