cloning from github?

Many moths ago I have successfully cloned qtconnectivity from github.
It was a simple , intuitive process and at one point one enters the github link.
Wanted to do it again, but this time I get a form asking to "setup git".
Not just enter the link but do some "configure" and it is not very intuitive.I had to reinstall QT ( new OS) and used same Ubuntu OS and "install" commands.
Did I missed something or
did something changed ? -
