Somewhere to start from, to understand how they work. My search online has shown that I need an e-book parser and e-books are just XML files of a sort but I don't know how to build the parsers. Probably an article that details the process of its creation or a project that I can use to learn.

One thing you can do is taking a look at projects like KDE's Okular or other FOSS ebook readers for what they use to parse ebooks.

I will check out kde's ocular but most of the other FOSS that I found don't make use of c++, even the ones with qt like Lector make use of py.

@abdulmueez you may want to check FBReader, it's C++ and references Qt 4.x

It seems I am biting more than I can chew over here. Can someone suggest a project suitable for a beginner or should I just push on?

There's likely no "ebook reader application for beginner to look into".

Application programming is not just taking ready made components that already does everything and put them together. You have to learn to use the tools available or write your own if nothing exists.

Push on and learn, that's the best way !

Alright, I will, thanks a lot for the motivation. It's really needed.

Wait up! Are you saying Python isn't programming? 😉

C++ is a perfectly valid school of magic.
