@eyllanesc, so is there any other way to extract the exact name of the default audio input file? Am I right, that the first element of the returned value of QAudioDeviceInfo::availableDevices(QAudio::AudioInput) is the DeviceInfo of the default audio input device?

I am very hesitant to use or rely on PA due to horrible latency and frankly the whole concept of having a sound server where only mic input and speaker output are required sounds outlandish to me.

That's rather a Windows problem. Qt queries Windows to get the list of devices so it's your system that's returning something fishy
