      Hi,

I think when a new firmware will be available for the C7's. As far as I know NFC is disabled on current firmware.

C7 Astound available in USA and has Near field chip activated. It's useful there since NFC is the new 'in thing ' with iPhone, Android and all others jumping into the bandwagon.
There is an Qt app- SHOPWIZER- which was developed way back and displayed at MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS

Check the Introduction to "NFC Guide":http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/bdaa4a0f-fcf3-4a4b-b800-c664387d6894/Introduction_to_NFC.html (updated today) and the "NFC section":http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Category:Near_Field_Communication_(NFC) on the Forum Nokia Wiki.

Also check "Angry Birds Magic":http://youtu.be/3afopE9iWMw, a new version, only for Nokia Astound that use NFC to unlock leves.

No.Unfortunately N950 doesn't have a NFC chip but C7 has it and I have activated it by updating to Anna. You get a NFC on/Off in connections setting after updating to 'Anna'. I find that it is hassle free to use on-air update rather than Nokia Ovisuite. Warning - Quick office disappears after 'Anna' update.

BTW, Qt Mobility Connectivity do not support nfctag writing yet on Harmattan (not sure about Symbian). So may be anyone know how work with nfcd direct via d-bus.

Harmattan does indeed support tag writing and reading (as does Symbian).

Only thing that's possible on Symbian but not supported on Harmattan is to send direct, raw, tag-specific commands to a tag. Therefore, you can only use methods provided by Qt Mobility; you can't lock tags for example by sending the tag-specific command bytes over to the tag.

As for using the dbus to communicate directly with the NFC system service on Harmattan: this isn't officially documented as far as I know. However, Qt Mobility NFC is open source as well, so you can get some pointers from taking a look at those sources.

As for the original question: NFC is supported on the Nokia C7 / Astound / Oro with (at least) Symbian Anna. Make sure you update your phone if it's still running Symbian^3.
Also, the new Symbian Belle phones (603, 700, 701) and the Nokia N9 support NFC.

NFC is supported in Qt Mobility 1.2. To develop, use the latest Qt SDK (currently 1.1.4). For Symbian, use the Symbian Anna target. For MeeGo, the MeeGo Harmattan target. Both have Qt Mobility 1.2 included.

The Nokia N9 and Symbian Belle phones have Qt Mobility 1.2 pre-installed.
On the C7, you need to update to Qt 4.7.4/QtM 1.2 either through installing a new Qt app that uses the Smart Installer, or you use the Qt/QtM .sis files provided in the Qt SDK.
