is qwebview currently supported and in use?
-
A cursory search did not find any recent (past couple of years) posts about QWebView. If there are current discussions, I'd very much appreciate being pointed to them. I have a couple of questions, but don't need to even ask them if no one even uses QWebView.
Thanks

QWebViewreally is not used any more. I have not seen a mention of it for a long time now. I do not know if it was ever ported to Qt6.Your "best" chance would probably be to track down a guy who used to post here about it. I believe he was the author but I cannot recall his name. If you find a couple of "WebView" topics you should see his name....

Hi,
Are you talking about the QWebView from the Qt WebView module ?

For whatever reason, I thought the question was about Qt WebKit. Which was indeed "discontinued".I am a bit lost here. When Googling
qwebview vs qwebengineviewI get summary:QWebView (legacy QtWebKit) and QWebEngineView (modern Chromium-based) are Qt classes used to display web content inside applications, but QWebView is obsolete and replaced by QWebEngineView in modern Qt releases.
OTOH https://doc.qt.io/qt-6/qwebview.html says:
Since: Qt 6.11
A web view is a window for displaying web content that is implemented using native APIs on the platforms where they are available. Therefore, it does not necessarily require including a full web browser stack as part of the application.
So I don't know quite what is going on :)

@JonB the original QWebView class was indeed part of QtWebKit which was superseded by QtWebEngine.
At some point the QtWebView module was introduced to provide a webview using the native backend of the OS. For example, on iOS it's mandatory to use Apple's API if you want to display web content. Android also provides something. On OS without a native webview component, QtWebEngine is used.
The goal of the module is to be lighter weight (unless no native component is available so WebEngine...)
