Qt on S40

I don't think so. Series 40 phones have quite limited resources and Series 40 is s feature phone platform. not a smartphone paltform Series 40 platform uses operating system made for the feature phones (Nokia OS). There is no native API which developers vould use So I don't really think there will be Qt for it.

Thiago hinted on the qt-interest mailinglist that there still
is a lot of business for Qt within Nokia.I think that means MeeGo and Symbian. Even if Nokia is moving to WP7 development of MeeGo and Symbian will still continue.

Well, the comment was that Qt was "being evaluated for the feature phone line", or something like that. It could become part of the "internet for the next billion" strategy, whatever that may mean. Thiago was quite explicit in telling us that not all relevant decisions that impact the future of Qt in Nokia have been communicated publicly, but he was obviously not able to go into details. If that means a port to S40 of Qt, I don't know. It could also mean that symbian will be "degraded" to be a "feature phone" OS while only those running on WP7 will be marketed as "smart phone". It could also mean something completely different.

Don't known how that would be possible because smart phone is not just some marketing term. Symbian is a smart phone OS no matter how you market it. If you would like to make a feature phone with Symbian then you would need to artificially criple the Symbian by making it closed system with no public native APi etc, and that does not make any sence at all.

are we all assuming that smart phones as they are today .. will be the end of world ...
just being hypothetical here ;) -
I look at it this way, more and more number of devices will support Qt and so focus on doing stuff on Qt and explore the new mkt opportunities. Even the 150 mil+ symbian phones indicate a significant mkt presence. S40 or not, there are more than enough customers who will be out there and a country like India is vastly untapped on the mobile app front ...

In an "interview":http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/05/26/stephen-elop-in-china-time-for-a-challenger-mindset-video/ Stephen Elop said that Symbian will be supported “at least up to“ 2016.
