at the moment we only have two buttons, Preview Post and Submit Post but there is no cancel button, IMHO there should be a cancel button too. As I was about to reply one of the post and I did "quote" after that i changed my mind I could not see any way of coming out of that compose box with quoted text except hit back button.

Don you guys think that there should be a button to cancel?

I was looking for it several occasions and I have navigated away from the page or refreshed it without clicking on the post reply button.

I am sure many users would have felt same way as me and you so I think we should have this here.
Do you know how to create voting thing in this post?

Yes it would help. I usually delete it or hit refresh.

I think it something which requires higher privilege level so you have to ask the forum admins.

Can I ask: what for this button would be? Just go away, and that’s end of that story. Or is there something else?

You can edit your original posting. But it's better to start a new thread, as some users might not catch up the change.

Underneath the text box is a link to add a poll. "Forum Help":https://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/ForumHelp in the wiki has some guidelines.

@Volker, thanks it was very helpful for me, as well.

@Smar: Regarding the Cancel button: when you edit a wiki page you have a Cancel link just to provide convenient way to cancel what you are doing (from your perspective we can navigate away from there too). When you design a new UI you will not tell the user to just close the window with the x in the top right corner (even if it cancels what he/she is doing) rather you provide a cancel button as well.

it’s a bit different for web, where atleat I’d suppose that user knows that the data won’t be tracked until she pushes the button or something. A link ”go to home” would be more useful for that kind of functionality.

Volker: Are we talking about two different things...? Canceling posting is different from (self)deleting posts.

I would like to stay in that particular thread of discussion but clear out all quoted text and what ever you have already typed in , at the moment you need to delete every text of the compose box Or hit back and then re click the discussion thread to come back in.

I agree that this would be only a convenience feature and it really does not matter how you call the link. And of course it is not a high priority issue.

I'd rather call that button "reset". But is it really necessary? Ctrl-A and Backspace achieves the same thing...

Not sure that I understood correctly what this button is for :) Something like imitating Ctrl-A and than Delete?

As I understand it would be only a convenience feature to drop all you write in the reply box and going back to the thread.

Yes This would be just a convenience feature to drop all the text of the compose box rather deleting all the text either by bakspace/delete or what ever, I would like to clear all the text without going to any other page and would like to keep stay in same thread discussion with all clear text. actually little inconvenience comes when you click quote to reply some one post and latter you decide not to do it.

What’s the problem with that text? Does it bother you? As long as you don’t press ”post reply”, it won’t be sent.
