Qt Designer, unable to drag & drop widgets

Using brew installed Qt (5.15.1) and vtk 8.2, Qt designer would work for maybe an hour then when I minimize it and come back, dragging and dropping widgets from the widget box no longer works. I only have the option to right click and expand or collapse the tabs.
Uninstalling and reinstalling Qt does not fix the issue, by some sheer luck I managed to get the dragging & dropping working after spam clicking a bunch of .ui files, but a little later the functionality stopped again.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I tried this on my other brand new Mac machine... same behavior, can't drag & drop widgets in designer

through mashing all my keyboard buttons at once, I think I have found a solution
if I drag a random file on my desktop to a different location it fixes Qt designer
this is really weird, but it solves my issues, at least temporarily

Have been having this same issue on my Mac. Such an odd fix but it somehow works.

Same here on macOS Catalina (10.15.7). Restarting Qt Creator did not help, but dragging a random file on the Desktop fixes the issue.

This problem looks like QTBUG-86786, which should be fixed in Qt 5.15.2.

Same issue for me :( macOS Big Sur 11.1 (20C69) / Qt Creator Qt Creator 4.13.1 Based on Qt 5.15.1 (Clang 11.0 (Apple), 64 bit)
