QML OSM examples on Android-OSM not shown

I have compiled planespotter and places examples for Android. Apparently the examples do work, but the map background of OSM is not shown.
Compiling both examples for desktop the OSM background is shown.

Do I have to install something special on Android phones?

Could be due to missing OpenSSL. Try debugging the app to see if you get ssl related errors. More about Android and OpenSSL here: https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/android-openssl-support.html
