New to Qt, having trouble adding callback functions.

I have created a basic GUI and dragged a tree view onto it.
I want to and function to populate the tree view on initialisation but I can't where to add this type of function.
Please help.

@ChrisBaker It could be for example in the constructor of your widget/window. When and how do you get the data for the tree?
Also, what do you mean by "callback functions" in this context?
