Re: How long take it to compile Qt5 ?
It is still compiling. It is a little over 20 hours and has taken about 4gb of space. I am using El-Capitan with 4gb of RAM.(2.5GHz i5)
-
Hi
what platform ?
On windows with mingw you need to use the -j X option to make
it use multiple cores.
20 hours sounds crazy :) -
Hi,
What do you mean by what platform? It has taken over 7 gb of space and still taking it.
I just ran 'make'. -
@parijit
Hi
Windows/linux/mac/android
Some compilers need a flag to use multiple cores.Ah. sorry. El-Capitan = macOS
If you look at the machine, is it using 100% cpu while it compiles?
-
No, its not using 100% CPU. Should i delete everything and start afresh?
-
@parijit
Is that i5 a dual core or quad core ?
20 hours seems like long time. For me on i7-2600, 4 core, 8 threads its
like some hours maximum. (not tried 5.10 though)It sounds more like a loop of sorts. Does it seems it progresses to other files
or staying with same ? -
Hi, Sorry for the late reply. I have to wait for 10 minutes to post again.
Its dual core and yeah it is progressing to other files. I dont think it is stuck and i am using the open source edition and not the commercial edition. Also, i am using 5.8 and not 5.10
-
@parijit
Ok, but 20 hours is pretty crazy.
I think it took like 12 hours on my raspberry pi but that was also saving
to very slow USB stick.
But that was Qt5.5.
Maybe 5.10 is more heavy. But i still think something is wrong as
its not a weak pc.
I would give it a few more hours and then kill it and restart.ps. i gave you some upvotes. should make posting faster.
-
Hi, Thank you for the upvote. I will wait for a few more hours. If it is still compiling, maybe i will then try a different version.
-
@parijit
Is a spin disk ( traditional) or a SSD ?
Sounds like a good plan.Is there a reason you want to compile your own version?
(versus using the precompiled for macOS) -
I have a SATA hard drive. I tried with the precompiled version, and i was facing some issues with Xcode. So i decided to go with the source version.
-
@parijit
Ok, that slows stuff down a bit but not to 20 hours i recon.Hmm, often Xcode error come from mismatch in expected version.
What version of Xcode is it ?
-
Its 8.2 on El-Capitan 10.11.16
-
Hi,
What parameters did you pass to the configure script ?
-
nothing.
-
What version of Qt are you building ?
-
I did a restart of everything. I did a fresh install of xcode and qt and it is working
