Qt Mobile development plans
-
Hi
I don't know if this is a good place for that post, if not please admin move it to the right section of forum.
I want to ask what are the plans for Qt Mobile?
I think Qt Mobile combining C++ and Qml and adding plugins support like it is with Phonegap can be a really great deal and Qt Mobile would be used much more for iOS and Android market.
The easy was of creating UI with qml and the power of C++ would be a great deal on mobile cross platform market. The only thing what is missing is plugins support.
I want to ask what are the plans for this? Because I don't know if there is even a point of waiting for Qt in this market? -
Hi,
What do you mean, "The only thing what is missing is plugins support"? Qt can load plugins on mobile platforms. In fact, it has to: Qt interacts with the underlying platform through a platform plugin.

I mean like Phonegap has a plugins for compass, facebook, notifications, network informations, camera, inapp purchase, ads etc...

I see.
Camera is part of the "Qt Multimedia":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/qtmultimedia-index.html module.
Notifications can be done through, say, the "Qt Android Extras":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/qtandroidextras-notification-example.html module.
Compass is part of the "Qt Sensors":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/qtsensors-index.html module. I think it's still incomplete, but it should be improved in the near future.
Facebook, inapp purchase, and ads are provided by the 3rd-party "V-play":http://v-play.net/ plugins.
Not sure about network info, but maybe the "bearer management API":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/bearer-management.html in the "Qt Network":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/qtnetwork-index.html module does the trick?

I see, that's good. But Digia does not present it for people the way they should.. Only geeks now will use it. They need to advertise it more than...

Been testing Qt/QtQuick for a month while beeing a complete Mobile dev, Qt and c++ virgin I can totally see what you're saying. Also the community isn't that active and wide to solve some of the more complicated situations. Maybe the official support is better for enterprise customers but that's not good strategy to get newcomers hooked in Qt world and might make the learning curve even worse.

Do you have any suggestions on how to improve the presentation? If so, please post your idea at http://bugreports.qt-project.org/
