It needs to remain in plugins\platform (relative to your application binary)!
--> plugins\platform\qwindows.dll

        qwindows.dll [copied from msvc2012\plugins\platform folder ]
where is this "msvc2012" folder?! The platform DLLs should be located in <qt-dir>/qtbase/plugins/platforms

          There's also the "deployment guide":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5.0/qtdoc/deployment-windows.html to help you with that

            I've installed Qt5.1.0 SDK for MSVC12-32bit RC on my development computer. I'm not finding qtbase folder within <qt-dir>

              search for the plugins/platforms folder which should be next to bin, doc etc...

                  yes..sorry my fault. i only use the source version of Qt not the pre-compiled packages. You're right.

                    i have set the environment variable

                    QT_QPA_PLATFORM_PLUGIN_PATH = C:\Qt\Qt5.1.0\5.1.0-rc1\msvc2012\plugins\platforms

                    i meant path to qtwindows.dll

                    this solved my problem and exe is running fine now :)
