debugger not Working in windows 7 64bit for a simple hello world program!!!

program works in run mode but does not work in debug mode!!!
I have chosen MinGW32.
any help is appreciated

Are you sure that you have compiled in debug mode?
Sometimes it is better to re-"run qmake" and rebuild when you are switching between modes. "Run qmake" and "Rebuild" are accessible with right-click on project name.

Also check if the tool chain is correctly set up. Go to "Tools"->"Options"->"Build&Run" check for special signs under tabs of "Kits", "Compilers" and " Debuggers". Report some unusal stuff here.
