Today, I got all "404 - page not found" while trying to look up 4.8 documentation on http://doc.qt.io
    What's up with that?

@tekojo Any idea on that one ?

The search engine returns results without any problem however the main page doesn't list 4.8 anymore.

@Konstantin-Tokarev said in 404 all over Qt Documentation?:

          http://doc.qt.io/archives/qt-4.8/index.html

          • I go to the above link
          • In the "Search documentation" box on the right, I enter "Designer Layout"
          • In the search result tabs, I select "4.8"
          • I scroll past the ads, and select the first link "Using Layouts in Qt Designer | Qt 4.8"

          --> 404

It looks like the Qt 4.8 docs have just been moved from https://doc.qt.io/qt-4.8/ to https://doc.qt.io/archives/qt-4.8/

However, Google hasn't crawled the new location yet.

              • https://www.google.com/search?q=site:doc.qt.io/qt-4.8/+designer+layouts -- Old path, broken links
              • https://www.google.com/search?q=site:doc.qt.io/archives/qt-4.8/+designer+layouts -- Correct path, but no links yet

We need to give Google time to find the new links first, before the search will work again for Qt 4.8.

@tekojo, in the meantime, could we make doc.qt.io/qt-4.8/ redirect to doc.qt.io/archives/qt-4.8/ ?

Thank you. The information that the docs were moved explains the rest.

I'll ping the docs team, they manage the server directly.

The 4.8 docs have an insanely strong google presence, so I'll tell the marketing web team to do something to that (they manage the google account)

You've broken a lot of Stack Overflow answers and other important links into the documentation. Really it would be much better to keep the original URLs.

Now there is a 301 redirect in place, things should return to normal.
