QtCreator 4.2 from src Linux Mint 18 no fonts

Since there is no Linux 32-bit installer or binaries, I have compiled QtCreator 42 from source.
The compile and make went well and the QtCreator runs with one exception - it does not use system fonts. It seems to use an internal font supplied with the source.
How do I change the configuration to use system fonts in the GUI and source code editor?

Cinnamon
GCC 5.4.0
GNU Make 4.1
Qt SDK v5.7.1 (32-bit) compiled from source
libfontconfig1 is installed
