Creating a fading trace

I am planning to implement a fading trace atop of some graphic. Basically it shall be similar to the well-known traces of the mouse pointer lasting longer. For instance markers placed and shown with fading colors, which are completely after a preset time (e.g. 10 minutes or even more).
Could not find something, but have used the wrong the key words. Is there anything like this already part of Qt?
