X11 Forwarding Slow on Qt 5 Applications

I developed an application that needs X11 forwarding. It works fine (speedy) when compiled with 4.8.6, but when compiled with 5.5.1 the screen refresh is too slow to use. How can I fix this? The application is widgets only- no graphics.
