QToolbar Expanding/Extention Action "qt_toolbar_ext_button". How does it worK?

Hi all, I'm trying to work out what slots are called to make the QToolbar Extension button expand/collapse a QToolbar if there is too many actions on the screen. I check the QT docs and its a really brief topic nothing really points towards what's controlling this operation and how to manipulate it. The way I'm currently doing it is creating my own "Click" event on code to trigger a slot which makes it expand/collapse. But this method isn't very good as it doesn't work when other signals are firing at the same time.
Does anyone know what causes the QToolbar to expand and how can I manipulate it?
