QFileDialog missing entries

We are using QFileDialog to navigate through the filesystem, sometimes it occurres, that the dialog is empty or missing elements. We notice in that case, that there is a message in the DOSBOX "QThread::start:failed to create thread".
console application, Qt 4.7.1, msvc 2008
Does anyone have a clue?
Looking into the sources, we found QFileInfoGatherer, which is working in a thread, but how to handle?
