    from http://download.qt-project.org/archive/qt/5.1/5.1.1/

I tried downloading and installing qt-windows-opensource-5.1.1-msvc2012-x86-offline.exe but when compiling it says I have not a compiler.

Only Qt MinGW package includes the compiler. For all other packs (all platforms) you need to install the compiler separately.

Hi, and welcome to the Qt Dev Net!

You need to install a compiler to build programs. If you chose qt-windows-opensource-5.1.1-msvc2012-x86-offline.exe, then you need to install the MSVC 2012 compiler (download it from the Microsoft website).

However, Qt 5.1.1 is very old now. You should get Qt 5.3.2 instead: http://www.qt.io/download-open-source/

VS2012 is old too. If it's a new project go with the newest stuff : Qt 5.3.2 and VS2013 update 4.

All features in Qt 5.1 are also present in Qt 5.3. Qt maintains backwards compatibility.
