How to make REST api calls using Qt WebSockets

I am trying to make a simple cryptsy ticker via a socket connection in Qt but I cannot find anything on google that specifically addresses REST api calls (at least recent without depreciated libraries) via Qt WebSockets especially when in relation to being used as the socket of a slot. Any URL or code samples would be truly appreciated. I am newer to Qt so some spoon feeding would be appreciated.
