Points & Ranks
-
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post, but I disagree with the policy stated in "Points & Ranks":http://qt-project.org/ranks that "Points expire after 12 months" and would like to see this changed so points never expire.
Thanks.

Actually it is more appropriate to post such topics at the "Beta testing sub-forum":http://qt-project.org/forums/viewforum/5/.
In my opinion the 12 months rule motivates regular users to contribute more the Qt Project's web site and after all remmeber that fame is fleeting :) -
Hi, I just love the 12 month rule ;-)
Then the oldies of the past, stay in the past and the new guys can claim glory!

I have moved this to Beta as Leon suggested.
Personally, I think the policy doesn't work well. But hey, I've seen tens of thousands of points evaporate, so I guess I'm not all that independent. Instead of keeping me active, I find it is a bit demotivating actually. The lack of insight in your point history also means that you have no idea when how many points will evaporate.

What do points and ranks have to do with beta testing? I wasn't sure which forum to use for my initial post but I don't think beta testing is the right place.
I also especially agree with Andre's last sentence since I view this as somewhat counterproductive.
Thanks.

This forum is where - de facto - feedback on the working of the site itself is gathering. It started out as only feedback on the beta test, but also after the beta the feedback on the site gathered here. So, I think it is the right place. There is no separate "points and ranks" forum :)

I totally agree that it will be nice to have better overview of user's points & history.
It will be also nice to have badges related to events in the past. At the moment the badges for "Hall of Fame" disappear as soon as the user is not among the overall top 5.

Perhaps the best solution to eliminate future confusion is to rename the forum to "Site Feedback" or something more appropriate.
[/quote]This is legacy sub-forum about Beta Testing of Qt Project's website since the times when it was called Qt Developer Network and maintained by Nokia. I doubt that it would be renamed and honestly I don't see a big need to do it.

Well, perhaps it could be changed, but we could also just keep around this small historical leftover :-)
Anyway, I don't have the power to create or rename forums, so I can't do that anyway. I only can move around posts and topics and such operations. I don't even know who can at the moment.
There have been experiments and lots of discussions about how to improve what's offered on this site already in the past. See for instance the Q&A forum. Somehow, all that dropped dead. A system much more like what you see on stack exchange would have worked better, but I don't see anything like that happening any time soon. I also agree that badges at least should be permanent. Either you achieved something or not. Now both the points and rank, and the badges are dependent on recent activity. OTOH, the points system we have that awards points for just doing something, whether that is appreciated or not, also does not work all that well.

Might also be that this "position":http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/30149/ hasn't been filed yet.
