Paging List and/or flickable direction

What is the easiest way to create a paging list that can accept a flick or a drag ... i.e. user flicks to the next page or drags list items and if XX threshold is met then upon release snap to next page?
I have been trying to use the default ListView flickable but with limited success. Is there an easy way to determine which direction a the list is moving when a flicking occurs?
