I know that packaging on Mac and Windows are very different, but is there a tool for windows which will at least put required DLLs into one folder or something?

No. I know some people intend to introduce it. What I don't know is whether they have started the work already, or are they just planning to.

Anything happen with this (if it did, my Google-fu is failing to find it)?

macdeployqt is just wonderful: it makes getting all the right gubbins into a Mac app bundle (which in my experience then Just Works on other folks' Macs) very easy. Until a few minutes ago my assumption was that the Qt application installer framework ( https://qt-project.org/doc/qtinstallerframework-1.5/index.html ) must be something which provides help with all that stuff on Windows... but I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion it doesn't.

Update: Aha! Lurking down the bottom of http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/windows-deployment.html I find mention of a windeployqt Windows Deployment Tool! And just used it marshal the 53MByte of Qt stuff my 89KByte executable depends on into place alongside it (more at http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/50034/ ).

Yes, well, a lot of time has passed since my last post here, and indeed, Qt now includes windeployqt.

So right now we are only missing linuxdeployqt :-D which I think is also planned (but probably much harder to create than for other platforms).
