Solution! I haven't seen this posted anywhere and other threads on the topic were quite old so here goes.
If you are using the open source Qt online installer, specifically to download archived Qt versions that don't seem to be available through the offline installer, from my experience, crippling download speeds are par the course. I found a solution, though:
- If you have access to a VPN (I use Nord), turn it on during the download and copy the url from the error message window that pops up (the VPN connection will cause the connection to drop).
- Paste this url into a website like nslookup.io to get the IP address and location of the download server (I currently reside in Germany and the installer automatically used a mirror from Finaland).
- Then, open up your VPN and switch it to the server nearest the download mirror. If you use Nord, also change your settings to use Nordlynx as it will be much faster.
Boom! From 100kb/s 30GB downloads that take multiple days to 2-6MB/s speeds that 1-2 hours. I hope this helps.
