Say Hello to Pedro: your new Community Manager!
-
Hello, everyone!
My name is Pedro and I am Qt's new Community Relations Manager.
Nice to meet you! 😁The Qt Community is a very passionate one, and I am very excited to join it and participate in the community discussions with you.
A little bit about me:
My birthplace is famous for a chaotic urban centre and humid summers that last 10 months - charade 1. Where I currently reside, we have a much greyer sky, but actual seasons. It is surprisingly green here, and the cultural scene is remarkably vibrant and anything is possible - charade 2.
I have experience in the Education, Gaming and Social Impact sectors, and I am sure there is a lot more to learn.It took me a while to understand that I am a Community Manager. I have taught languages, participated in social projects, organised online and offline events, facilitated workshops; whatever I would list here you would see that I like to bring people together, understand their needs and struggles and find a way to help the greatest number of people at once. My goal is to build better communities, where people are listened to and taken into consideration when it's time for decision making.
A successful Community is much, much greater than the simple sum of its parties. I would like us to recognise, achieve and nourish that.I am taking my time to pick up the pieces and build this puzzle (also known as the Qt's Ecosystem), (e-)meet colleagues, read a lot and gather data.
There have been no CM (Community Manager) for quite some time, I know, and it's clear I have a lot to catch up on.A few remarks:
- Qt Community channels: they are many, scattered around the globe and the Internet; meanwhile it is a very good sign that the Community is alive and well, I would like to find a way to bridge these islands;
- Qt Champions and Qt Contributor Summit - my intention is to continue with them, so stay tuned;
- Forum Update/Maintenance: I have already found out we have a roadblock there and I will be pushing for a fix;
- Forum Moderators: I am in contact with our moderators and we already had our first discussion;
- Forum Badges: I will be reviewing them for a better understanding of who is who (you can see I already gave myself my own badge); and
- Community Recognition: I would like the Community to have a better spotlight, so I am already cooking some ideas, and I welcome yours of course.
I won't make any promises for now; all I can say is that I will be working for the Qt Community's continuous growth, not only when it comes to numbers, but also in regards to your experience as Community members.
Effective Communication is one of my personal pillars.All in all, I am super excited to be here, and I hope we build a nice relationship.
Let me know if you have any initial questions! 🙂PS.: I talked to Tero the other day, and he told me already a bit of his work with the Community. I heard great things about you. ;)

but unfortunately not active
Yes, but we can't do anything about it if nobody uses those language specific forums.

@Nevez said in Say Hello to Pedro: your new Community Manager!:
For beginners, this would be the perfect gesture .
Hi Nevez!
I understand there is a need for a "Beginner Space", but I can't see the correlation between that and country specific spaces.
As stated by @jsulm, we have language specific forums, yes.
If they are inactive, you can try to start posting there and hopefully someone will pick up the conversation. Actions are contagious.@Nevez, what are your exact needs as a Beginner?

Welcome, Pedro, to the illustrious line of Qt's community managers! \0/
It's been quite a while, but I was the Trolltech Qtopia Community Manager way back when in Sharp Zaurus days... Now I am freelance engineer working on Qt WebAssembly.
-
@lorn-potter You're giving me even more white hairs... You just reminded me of the time a wrote a dedicated application using the QCop technology for a self-built QTopia stack on custom hardware.

@Nevez , Yeni Başlayan biri olarak tam ihtiyaçlarınız nelerdir?
First of all, thank you for asking this question.
Definitely more examples.
The QT documentation is very well prepared. Definitely a good resource for beginners. However, after the explanation, the person should give examples or increase the number of examples in order to understand the subject better.
Otherwise, it can be very superficial. -
Boas vindas, Pedro, nosso novo Community Manager.

@lorn-potter Oh hello back to you!
@joaopagotto Obrigado 😉

Welcome Pedro!

Thanks @Dariusz and @MaartenLCF!
