Need some help in server and connections
-
Hello Guys,
Almost after 20 days in the forum. It is great.I was hosting database in local machine and using it through port "192.168.1.2"
But that seems fast for that specific station but I want to be available as it is now in local environment
And also have the feature to connect to database. The area that we want to cover is less than 20KM(we can do it by connecting that PC to internet and again host ).
What things should I choose?
Like which OS, which hosting software
I don't know much about hosting like this. I had used Xampp beforeI have done this
https://forum.qt.io/topic/128404/how-to-connect-database-to-online-serviceI want to make it available for 5-10 computers online. There is not huge traffic but atleast it should function(Speed doesn't matter that much )
I hope you guys understand it

questions like this are why there are professionally payed consultants.

@Kent-Dorfman
If I am not wrong, This forum is for solving problems related with QT.
Qt lounge is place where you can ask other questions but I am posting something connected with QT. If we connect with payed consultants then , can you show me the reason of the forum. Every question can be solved by paying. Am I right ?
Are forums like this not for seeking for help, Bro literally many answers here deserves awards. So people answers in forum.
I think forum as this way.
And Sir I am asking for professional help. I want to get things where other peoples have dived already.I am not offended but quite un predicted reply
Thank You bro

Hi.
I think that @Kent-Dorfman just means its a broad topic as such and might even be considered advanced on a server Admin forum :)Anyway, what I would do with up to 20 clients is to use VPN.
This requires both the server and connection to be ok but if high speed is not needed one can get away with surprising less.Setup:
1: The Server
- Windows 10 OR
- Ubuntu Server/"what you like"
In a virtual machine on a good pc. (quid core at least/16Gb)
2: Then openVPN server installed.
Read some tuts about max. protection.3: Then install openVPN client on each "area" client.
Set it up to auto-connect.This will create a private network in the "area" over internet.
If you have some IT experience, then also something like
https://www.zerotier.com/
is also good but might be a bit overkill for 1 server use case. -
Actually I stand by my previous statement. Online forums have become a haven for workers under cheap-A$$ managers who hire folks without the domain knowledge to do broad design and implementation work, or managers who won't pay for real subject matter experts, and then the poor fools they do sucker into it go to the net looking for free consulting because their employer won't pay to do it right.
Sorry, I know it's a hard pill to swallow, but I never really accepted the modern "global socialist community where everybody gets a trophy" philosophy. What invariably happens is that the implementer gets questionable online advice, does the best they can, the boss isn't satisfied so that relationship sours, and then the guy finally jumps ship to greener pastures. Only then does the boss start to grudgingly accept the necessity of spending real money to solve a problem...so whatever real consultant decides to take it on fights an uphill battle to convince the manager what the real cost and effort is.
I enjoy contributing to the educational aspect of learning Qt, but when it smells like anything corporate then I tend to go into "you should be paying for that" mode...and unfortunately even college level academic projects have a commercial aspect these days when they contract with companies or govt to do licensable R&D.
But good luck anyway. LOL

@Kent-Dorfman
Yup That is also Correct.
I am not in college and I am self-taught till now. I just do it for fun. And just helping peoples for free. And not obviously PRO at itOnline forums have become a haven for workers under cheap-A$$ managers who hire folks without the domain knowledge to do broad design
Yup that is truth.
