How write zoom application?

I have written a lot of time ago zoom application only for Windows.
Now , zoom application must be for Linux and Windows, especially for Linux.
How :- capture mouse, if I press button, mouse cursor should go over while desktop, but be owned by my application
- draw rectangle on desktop onMouseMove
- get to my application physical, desktop coordinates of mouse
- get selected rectangle as bitmap
- draw this bitmap stretched in my application window
