Design button is disabled in Qt-Creator 2.1.0
-
Hello,
I just got OpenSuse 11.4 and installed Qt-Creator from it's repositories.
I created a Qt Quick GUI project and when I am viewing the .qml file the Design button does not become enabled. What can I do to enable the Design button, or are there other ways to bring the visual designer on screen?
Thanks!

Looks like this problem also exists in Qt-Creator deployed in Ubuntu 11.04 repositories:
"Bug 752713":https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator/+bug/752713 -
Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I have been looking into Qt for some time now and tried to start my first ever Qt quick application. Qt creator seems like beautiful peace of software development tool. Continue the great work your are doing with Qt.
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 64 (with gnome 3 which is nicest OS ui I have used).

Could you try with Designer 2.2.0?

Andre,
I installed sdk 1.1.1 with the Linux 64 installer, and now designer seems to work (I tried and it shows my first QML form). Initially I hesitated to install outside of the Ubuntu repository, but it worked like a charm. Another pleasant experience with Qt.
Thank you very much!

The packages in ubuntu tend to be outdated, mostly since it takes a while till something we release to show up in the next release of ubuntu. So if you want the new cool stuff you need to grab the binaries from us.
The Qt Quick Designer is currently using private headers of Qt which are not installed by ubuntu. I would not be surprised that this fact will make packaging the Qt Quick code in Creator rather hard (or impossible:-) within the constraints of the build bots of a distribution. We are working on resolving this issue, but that will take a while. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Tobias,
There was no inconvenience. I rather think that it was a learning opportunity for me. I found out about this forum and made my first (albeit minor) contribution to the Qt community.
Next challenge for me is to start designing my application (or software system) (it is meant to be a learning exercise of different techniques: Qt, HTML5, "CSLA.net":http://www.lhotka.net/cslanet/, behavioural modelling, persistence frameworks...). I think I have to ask your opinion about some of the issues, but that is a discussion for another thread.
