Trouble installing the "Qt Assistant compat version"

Hi people,
My first post so I hope I'm in the right place. I have a Gentoo install of Linux on which I'm running QT 4.7 rc1. I now need to install Paraview V3.8. Paraview requires the older Assistant that has been removed in 4.7 hence I grabbed the compat version as outlined in a "blog post":http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/06/22/qt-assistant-compat-version-available-as-extra-source-package/: which has now closed for comment. My question is what do I know do with the gz file. Where do I unzip it? Do I have to qmake && make it and so on. Any advice on getting this installed so I can build Paraview would be greatly appreciated.
