Software for screen capture to video
-
Hello all!
I'm interested in doing some tutorial videos for a software project I'm working on, and would like to get input on good software to use for doing screen capture to video. I'm neutral on a platform, with Windows, Linux, and Mac all available to me. I'd probably be interested in using all three at some point.
Which products (preferably open source) have you all had success with?
Thanks in advance!

You can use "fraps":http://www.fraps.com/ it allows to capture easily what's happening, including on directx / opengl app. Most gamer use it for videos of their achievements ;-)

Linux: recordMyDesktop
Windows: Camstudio (free), Camstasia, fraps
OSX: 10.6+ has this feature builtin in Quicktime, otherwise ScreenFlow or ScreenBack -
QML Viewer can also make video's, in case you're working with QML...

You could also try a HW solution. For instance "this one":http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/. Haven't tried myself, but it looks good, doesn't it;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out.
Hopefully I'll have some video goodness to share with everyone soon!
i can advice this prog hXXp://www. geovid. com/ Screen_VidShot/, great tool!
Seems like another attempt of cross linking to their website just to promote some product which is not recommended. It seems the poster (moll) has just created the account for posting this.
I would go with the above recommend Camstudio (free) or Camstasia for windows.

bq. I would go with the above recommend Camstudio (free) or Camstasia for windows.
Indeed. I ended up having good luck with both of those.

It seems moll is spamming and using his account for this sole purpose. Admins please check this and block him from doing so.

Thank you. This type of spam is very much prevalent in most DB. These are usually done for SEO to get more visibility in search engines.
In this particular case the user seems to have just created the account for this sole purpose, since there is no other post.
A suggestion would be to disable hyperlinks to be enabled till certain level(eg Lab Rat level won't give you this privilege). This is followed in most forums.
