Hi,

I write here because I am not sure where post this notice. Please, see the post I wrote some days ago "Single Instance Harmattan Applications":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/Single_Instance_Harmattan_Applications

I explained a method that I have tested on the N950 device for many times in more than one application. To reach the conclusions mentioned in this wiki page, I have worked for days with the effort of other developers, i.e. matrixx.

The reason of the wiki page is that there is a bug in Qt sdk 4.7.3 related to the file rules that should be edited in a special way, then to avoid the further problems that this change generate it is necessary to edit the other files, including .desktop.

This morning a guy write to me that he has followed the method in the wiki page but it don't works. Then also notified in his post that the reference to the changes that should be made are incomplete. The last post is of matrixx (that has helped me to find the bug and solve this problem) that I cite below:

bq. @Alicemirror
I believe someone has been modifying the wiki page, cause the “rules hack” is not there.

I think that if a person change a wiki page written by another he can do it with the maximum care, checking and checking again if the changes made have already sense. Despite that if I find one of you writing a page that I think unuseful or not needed I will contact him, if I decide to change the page removing at all most of the description, I notify clearly the change.

The post with the matrixx last note is here: http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/8132/P30/#50412 (take a look to the end of page 2 and page 3)

The changes history of the wiki page can be found here: http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/diff/Single_Instance_Harmattan_Applications

Hi Alicemirror,

I had a similar situation some time ago. Somebody just changed the title of a wiki page because he tought it was too long.
All the links to the pages didn't work anymore of course.

Fortunately Alexandra could change things back. maybe there is some kind of backup of the wikipages so that everything can be restored to the right time.

You can always use the "Edit to revert" feature from the diff view.

Hello,

sure, I see that it is possible to edit to revert, but

1. I think that onoe of the best resources of the dev site is that here people develop serious and reliable cooperations. So I think that this action should be notified and avoided. I think that this is a non-usual behavior so the users that operate in this way should be removed or stopped. For the respect of all the other that do serious works.

2. I don't like a sort of children war where you remove my page and I remove your pages and revert the changes and so on... I see that this guy (you can see his profile in the wiki pages history) should be notified. I think that this is a beahvior really far from the ethics of this place.

Cheers.

Sometimes these things go wrong without bad intent. In Eddy's case, Kevin changed the URL so it complies to our heading standard. It's part of the wiki gardening. Unfortunately, he didn't remember to set a redirect. These things happen.

We're in a bit of an unfortunate situation with our wiki not supporting discussion pages. I'm trying to come up with some sort of sane guidelines to avoid frustration for those - like Alicemirror - who put a lot of work into a wiki page which is then broken for whatever reason.

In this special case, I will contact nikrolls and check with him why he made the changes. I'm confident he had good reason.

I absolutely agree with what you're saying. I remarked the "edit to revert" feature in response to Eddy's
maybe there is some kind of backup of the wikipages so that everything can be restored to the right time.
. I am sure that Alexandra will find a solution to resolve this.

Thank you Alexandra, but as you can see in the wiki changes history, the reason is explained in the comment of his changes: these things can be found in his revisione notes:

bq. Revision Note:
Most of these steps aren't needed!

That is that the removed piece is the reason of the page. I don't discuss that it maybe wrong or with errors or whatever. But I think that this is not a method to operate at all. Then, unfortunately, in this case me, matrixx and the poor guy that tried to use the new version of the pages reach the same conclusions.

Thank you anyway for you always present support :)

Your post is arrived just a second before my answer to Alexandra, that - as usual - done the right things :)

Thank you for your support to all :)

P.S. Qt-Complex is going ahead, a new version next week with strong news. See ya

Hm. I agree with your sense of cooperation and serious work but sometimes people make mistakes. Most of the time there is no bad intent when another user changes a wiki page but rather the honest wish to improve something. I think we should grant others the benefit of doubt.

True. Being childish is never a good idea. I reverted the page now and sent an email to Nik. As long as I don't have any other evidence, I trust that he knows what he's doing and something simply went wrong. I stopped counting the wiki pages I messed up and needed to revert...

I certainly understand your frustration if something like this happens but let's keep in mind that in most cases people here are reasonable. I suggest getting in touch with the respective user directly or, if that doesn't appear to be feasible, report the page with a meaningful comment so I can sort things out. :)

I know we kan revert in the wiki and I was confident Alicemirror knew that too.

Sometimes we need some motherly care to make things back to normal when normal solutions are not adequate. Thanks Alexandra ;)

Alexandra, as I have notified to you in other occasions I appreciate very much your work (there are many ways to do the sam job...) But one of the things that I could appreciate of you is the diplomacy :)

The only goal I think should be that we can take benefit from this global cooperation. The other stuff are only rumors.

Agree.

To be honest , I posted here the problem just because I was unsure what to do.

Next time I follow this advice.

I never doubted that, however I thought I'd just point that out.

BTW, congrats on reaching the Mad Scientist level (I just noticed) ;) .
