    Ubuntu 24.04 has been delayed a bit this year. I believe the final version comes out in a week's time, around 25th April 2024.

    I always use whatever version of Qt comes with the Ubuntu distro, through apt. Obviously I take Ubuntu distro updates, but I never take new versions etc. from TQtC. I wish to continue like this. And I have negative 100% interest in compiling any part of Qt from source!

    Googling ubuntu 24.04 qt version I get, not surprisingly, some contradictory information about which Qt6 version will be packaged. I think some suggestion it will be Qt 6.5 as that is an LTS.

    Has anybody tried perhaps a beta of Ubuntu 24.04? Does anyone know what we will actually get in a week's time, or where I could look for a definitive answer?

    Also, if it is to be 6.5, sorry, but I have seen plenty of bad reports/problems on this forum for both Qt 6.6 & 6.7. Really nasty ones. Is 6.5 relatively "stable" and "not full of fatal flaws"?

      From this, I assume it's gonna be Qt6.4.2, for now (wtf?!):

      Ubuntu 24 (24.04)
      Codename Noble (Numbat)

      If you think Qt6.6 and 6.7 are bad, wouldn't be 6.5 even worse?!

        Thanks, doubtless I'll see in a while.

        Possibly, but since I intend to use whatever they give me I have no choice!

        As a random example 6.7 is actually "unusable" with PySide. Read the couple of threads there have been about this. Not that I do much Python, but still. Don't know whether it ever got tested. I appreciate @Christian-Ehrlicher has said he has fixed it in 6.7.1, but my point is that if Ubuntu came with 6.7.0 frozen in for its distro that wouldn't help me. Anyway, whatever will be will be.

          @JonB I do not use Qt version from Ubuntu distribution. The reason is the Qt update in Ubuntu release is slow. And you do not need to build Qt while you can install the higher versions of Qt. Same with the package gstreamer I am using. Its update in Ubuntu release is even slower. Therefore, I build the versions I need.
          Also do not assume that all packages in Ubuntu release are tested. I have the impression that the packages are simply built.

            @JoeCFD
            I understand. My need for an up-to-date Qt is (a lot) less than yours, I just want to take the distro and leave it at that. Worked perfectly for me with Qt5. This will be my move to Qt6. But I will bear in mind that I can upgrade if I find I need to.

              Have you (or anyone else) moved to the latest Ubuntu 24.10 ("Oracular Oriole", October 2024)?
              I am presently on 24.04, which only has Qt 6.4.2. It is looking like, and I am hoping, they have upped to 6.6.x for 24.10, but am unsure from my searches. I do not usually move to Ubuntu "interim" releases but I would in this case if so.

                Yup, 24.10 has Qt 6.6.2

                and no, haven't tried it yet.
