In Russia decorate the tree when you want it :) earlier than month, 2 weeks or earlier than one hour :) Remove tree after Jan, 15. Sometimes later. We have national joke about Christmas tree removing and May, 1 celebration. ;)

The summer is about to begin in Brazil, so Christmas here happens in a hot weather.
Cities are decorated with lights and it's funny how stores and houses are decorated, because almost all of them try to reproduce a cold, snowy landscape. People dressed as Santa Claus suffer a lot with the obviously inadequate clothes for the season. The highways from big cities to the beaches are crowded, so that's why I prefer to stay with my family in my hometown, in the country side :-)

In the Netherlands, the main holiday is december 24 & 25, though most present-giving is done at december 5, when we celebrate "Sinterklaas" (not to be confused with the fat coke-drinking guy from the US). A lot of people and companies put up decorations, trees, lights, candles and illuminated junk in the gardens. Families often have dinners on the 25th and/or the 26th; both days are important. The evening of the 24th is only celebrated by people going to church for it. Some cities like playing with light, such as Gouda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og9d1TXsB-U&feature=related

Newyears eve (or "Old & New", as we call it literaly translated) is celebrated with lots of fireworks at midnight, and special treats like "oliebollen" and "appelflappen". Those are also excellent for breakfast at newyearsday, IMHO :-)

In India we have different festivals and holidays running throughout the year. Due to the cultural diversity there are lot of festivals and holidays to celebrate. And yes Christmas and New Year is one of them. But the main festival is the festival of lights Diwali - which comes around in the month of Oct-Nov.

But only in Diwali you could end up with 7-8 days off if you like apply for 1-2 days leave, else for us holidays ends up being a day here and a day there. And yes we have tonnes of fireworks during Diwali

Yes, thats right. But then we have lots of days to celebrate throughout the year. But then Diwali stands out as schools and colleges get around 15-20 days of vacation. Its celebration time with fireworks. Usually these celebrations vary from place to place. But if you happen to be in a place like Mumbai (where people from different parts of the country live) almost everything is celebrated in a grant manner.

Say we have other celebrations like "Navratri":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navratri (9 Nights of worshipping Goddess Durga) and playing "Dandiya":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dandiya_Raas.

Another one is "Ganesh Utsav":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh_Chaturthi, goes for around 11 days. And many more.
