Wolf/Gerolf - would you mind writing a short wiki article on this? This would surely be helpful for other users too. At least for me - as I consider to upload a gravatar :-)

The ideal solution would be everyone using OpenID (or another protocol with the same features, there are always alternatives) to its full potential, not only for the username/password pair, but also for other of it's usually unknown features. Your OpenID provider might allow you to add to your "persona" your email, nickname, avatar, and so on. That way the DevNet would not need to add all that features.
