      Great! What do you expect to be fixed?

      Yesterday I had the same thing again, where when I went back and appended some stuff to a post it got "lost" :( This time, however, going into edit mode on the post did retrieve the edits I had previously made, and pressing save (without making any further changes) did make the post show up for me with the stuff I had added earlier....

        Hopefully all of it, I believe it is all related to the same cause, so if this fixes one thing I am hoping it fixes the others too. Only one way to find out of course :)

            Hah, well it is partly educated guesswork so although I am hoping it helps, I won't know for sure until we try :)

              Beers, and joking, aside, I am still regularly losing edits I make to posts. For example on https://forum.qt.io/topic/109276/how-to-refresh-qtableview-after-an-sql-commit/18 at around or before 10am UTC. You did say at one point you would look at the server's "update logs" to see if you could psot anything?

              Since the problem appears even if I switch browsers and/or machines, I don't think it's anything to do with a cache on the client, rather your server. When I edit & commit the post I do see it "take" on the page. I think I can refresh and it's still there. But soon when I return to the post I notice the edits have disappeared.

              That's apart from the page display in wrong font for quite a while, eventually it changes over to the intended sans-serif fonts. While this is only an annoyance, I think it's also pointing to an issue at the server.

              EDIT I just edited the above paragraph to add something like:

              Plus the post vote counts are wrong. Plus the number of posts reported to be in threads from a forum's threads list page are wrong....

              After Submitting (with no error), I immediately refresh this page and they have disappeared into the blue yonder, Edit does not bring them back. It's so hard to remember never to click Submit without first copying the whole post I have just edited in case I lose it all :( And it just lost this new edit again, luckily I did remember to copy this time ... :@ :@ Now I see this line on the page, but when I click Edit it's not there, I cancel, refresh still on page, retry Edit, still not there, retry again and it is there again eventually.... Now I have later refreshed/gone to different browser and all of it's gone, it's back to how it was a while ago; I keep refreshing and after a while it comes back with these edits.... I didn't experience any of these behaviours before the forum update now a few months of frustration ago....

              Can you get the powers who employ you to remove everything else from your task list and just pay you to sort this out now? ;-)

                @JonB Out of curiosity - do you see your changes listed when you go to the post menu and select "Edit history"? To me it shows 15 revisions for the post you linked and I can switch to see them. Is it also visible on your end?

                  Let me make a new post, as the above one is haywire for me. Just on the subject of the losing edits, I think you should know

                  • I edit a post and submit.

                  • I sit and click browser Refresh over a period of time. Some of the time the post shows without the edits, some of the times with the edits, and regularly swaps either way. This goes on and on for ages, I don't know if/when it ever settles down. I can no longer even tell which version is "really" on the forum, or what other people or I will see when viewing it.

                  • To me this points to: (hopefully) the changes are being accepted at the server end, but the server maybe has cached old copies. Even in response to browser refresh, it "randomly" delivers sometimes the most up-to-date copy, sometimes an older cached one...?

                    Umm, where exactly is "when you go to the post menu and select "Edit history""? I don't know where you mean. If you mean the "..." vertical to the right of my posts, where I can Edit, I don't see any "post history"....? Nor from any of the buttons?

                    EDIT Whoops I found it, hang on....

                    Yep, I get 15 revisions on https://forum.qt.io/topic/109276/how-to-refresh-qtableview-after-an-sql-commit/18 . I get 8 revisions for the problematic https://forum.qt.io/topic/108860/losing-edits-in-my-posts/9 above. I'm not yet convinced they are right, though, they may be being subjected to wrong-caching too....

                      @Chris-Kawa
                      I'm giving up now. The post I have made immediately above and edited is subject to the same problem. I cannot even post here without losing or not losing my edits on & on, it's taking me the whole morning to keep refinding what I have done which sometimes shows and sometimes not, it;s too frustrating to even type replies any more, but thank you.

                        I think the post history is correct. I'm not certain though whether when I view each one sometimes that itself is subjected to caching problems and shows different, I don't know.

                          And finally, when I do look at https://forum.qt.io/topic/109276/how-to-refresh-qtableview-after-an-sql-commit/18 post even now an hour on, it's random whether I see what (I hope to be) the final, up-to-date version with all the edits or some older version without. I refresh on & on and it just varies what it shows.....!!!

                            ...and the same for my edits on this page...

                            I'm making a new post reply each time because seemingly I do get to see these without problem, unlike editing.

                            I really am going now... !

                            @AndyS , or @Chris-Kawa
                            I hope the above might give you some clue. I'd be really grateful if someone gets a handle on this, it's crazy!

                              Right, final post! :) I think a further useful clue.

                              I'd say my Edit history is correct, in that it shows the right number of revisions at the right times.

                              However, as I click through those revision contents, sometimes they are correct, sometimes I think they all show the same content, probably the unedited original or an early one. So they too are subject to the caching or whatever issue. And when the real page is correctly showing the latest edits the whole history contents are correct too. When the real page is incorrectly showing some old content, each of the revisions all show the same single old content too.

                                @JonB I have been discussing this and the general problem with IT here and we are confident we have the cause of the problem. That wa swhat we attempted to fix last time but the problem was that the fix meant the server had problema managing the load. So they are trying to figure out what we can set it to so that it solves the problem and also allows it to manage the load.

                                I will be away for a few days but we should have a plan ready to try again shortly which hopefully gets it working in all aspects again.

                                    So I see the latest announcment:

                                    Planned maintenance has been done but it did not solve the problem. So work will continue on this and a new time for trying updates will be announced asap.

                                    This is not great :( So.... is there anything which can actually be done to get back to the forum where it used to work without any of these problems? It's all very well saying the upgrade was needed for "security", but months later we still have a dysfunctional forum in its place....

                                    All said in the politest way, I know you are doing your best.... !

                                      We already know what to try next, but this requires help from IT to get it right, I am waiting for input from them about it before I can try that. But it is not possible to downgrade and even then it might not help, the problem is mainly down to how we have set up our load balancing, it triggers the cache issue with NodeBB so we are trying to find the right settings that get it working without breaking the forum entirely. I have been able to confirm that it is the cause of the problem, but only the production one has the best way of showcasing the actual load so we have to be careful with making changes.

                                      Thanks, I wish it hadn't gotten into this situation, but hopefully we will have this sorted out ASAP
