Unsolved Add New..., Add Existing Files..., Add Existing Directory... all greyed out in a qMake project, episode 2
-
Judging from the amount of views, and my experience, this bug, Add New..., Add Existing Files..., Add Existing Directory... all greyed out in a qMake project, seems to be present still in QT Creator 4.9.2 running on Qt 5.13.0.
It is a bug that will quietly drive you insane, since the only remedy seems to a restart of Qt Creator.
If anyone has a clue as how to fix this, I think a sizeable amount of people would love to hear about it.
In principle one could build a debug version of Qt Creator, and break on relevant code. How complicated would this be to achieve?
The original thread can be found here. I have posted a separate topic, since that was suggested t ome when clicking the "Reply" button: Add New..., Add Existing Files..., Add Existing Directory... all greyed out in a qMake project

@nesavi So have you checked your configured Kit is correct in the Projects settings as suggested in the original thread?
-
@aha_1980 thanks for your reply. I believe you are referring to the comment about compilers being deselected in the Kit setup window? If so, yes I have checked, and I do not see any change across time.
-
@nesavi Then please show some screenshots.
I had exactly your problem last week and one of the projects in my session was not properly set up.
-
And I've created QTCREATORBUG-22682 to track that problem.

I'd be happy to. Which screens exactly? Kit-configuration and project-configuration? Would copies of *.pro and *pro.user files be useful as well? Would it be useful to track the *.pro.user files over time? This could be achieced by committing to version control, and the diffing after the problem shows up.
Bear in mind that I'm somewhat new to Qt.

No, please don't version the *.pro.user! It cannot be shared and is incompatible with older and newer versions over time. I usually delete it after bigger updates and let Creator create a new one.

The screen that appears after "Projects" on the left mode selector or pressing Ctrl+5 would be good.

@aha_1980 apologies for not replying earlier. Work got crazy.
I've not encountered the bug for a while.
I've attached a screenshot as per your suggestion. To the best of my knowledge nothing seems out of place. Note that "Shadow build" is disabled, which I have done. Default seems to be enabled.
-
@aha_1980 also: thanks again for taking the time to assist in this issue. It is much appreciated! :-)

Hi @nesavi,

No problem. We all know these situations... :)
I've not encountered the bug for a while.
The better. Your project settings looks good. As result for the bug I reported, some extra checks are added to the project manager in Creator 4.10. So hopefully we get enough feedback from the project manager in case some configuration is missing. Feel free to give 4.10 a try once it is released and report back here if the problem still occurs for you.
Thanks and regards
